Kashubia is a very interesting region of northern Poland, where they still carefully care for tradition and culture. They also have very interesting and tasty dishes.

This time it was herring in Kashubian. Interesting and original taste that has taken over me. I found the recipe in one of the books and adjusted it, because some people add pickled cucumbers or plums to them, which I omitted.

Ingredients

  • 6 herring fillets, matijas
  • 2 onions
  • 1 apple
  • 5-6 tablespoons of tomato paste (approx. 200 g)
  • a handful of raisins
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 5-6 grains of allspice
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • salt and pepper
  • Oil

Dice the onion and dice the apples.

Heat two tablespoons of oil in a frying pan and sauté the onion. Then add the apple, tomato paste, bay leaves, allspice, and cinnamon. Also add 1/3 cup of water.

Simmer slowly, about 15 minutes. Season with salt, pepper and honey. Get it all over the place.

Cut the herring fillets into pieces. Put in a bowl. Add the cooled sauce and raisins to them and mix thoroughly.

Transfer to a jar or airtight box and set aside for at least a day. After this time, they are ready to be served.

Bon Appetit!
